“Peace is in our hands. It just takes education.” Consistent
to the Department of Education’s (DepEd) thrust of institutionalizing peace
education in the basic education curriculum, 33 preschool teachers and
supervisors from the different school divisions in the Autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) successfully underwent a four-day training-workshop on Early
Childhood Education (ECE) from September 27 to October 1, 2009 in Davao City.
The activity was conducted with funding support from the Australian Agency for
International Development (AusAID) through the Basic Education Assistance for
Mindanao (BEAM) Project.
Marawi City, LANAO DEL SUR – The Australian Agency for
International Development (AusAID) through the Basic Education Assistance for
Mindanao (BEAM) has strengthened the Distance Learning Program (DLP) in the
region as one of the approaches in improving poor access of children to basic
education.
The
DLP is one of the initiatives of the BEAM Project under its Component 3 –
Increasing Access – which seek to grant opportunities for the school age
children in the elementary level starting at Grade 3 to Grade 6 from far-flung
and poor areas, to have access to formal basic education through the use of
independent and self-paced learning modules. The program targets pupils at risk
of dropping out or those who have stopped schooling due to various factors such
as risks because of distance from school, poverty, absence of teachers, etc.
COTABATO CITY – Around 380 public schools
of Department of Education in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
(DepEd-ARMM) received a P19 million-school grant from the Australian Agency for
International Development (AusAID) through the Basic Education Assistance for
Mindanao (BEAM) Project.
One of the major focus of the BEAM project is on
strengthening School Based Management in
support of the Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA) of the Department
of Education. Through this component, BEAM has undertaken several cycles of
trainings to capacitate school heads to develop and implement School
Improvement Plan (SIP) and to establish and strengthen School Governing
Councils (SGC).
